Here's how I work.

Once we reach an agreement on price, I'll prepare a simple contract outlining my responsibilities, deadlines and other important information.

Depending on whether or not you're a new client, and the size of your job, I may require a retainer.

My next step is to ask you for written or electronic information on your products or services--as much as is humanly possible! In order to communicate your goals, plans and benefits, I need to find out the details of what you're offering, and understand your target market intimately. I accomplish these tasks by research and interviews.

I'll also send you my proprietary copywriting questionnaire, which helps me get to the heart of your company and its products and services.

And if I think it's needed, I'll ask you to participate in either a phone or e-mail interview during which I'll ask you pointed questions about each of your products and/or services.

After the preliminary research and interviews, I'll submit a sample draft. You may suggest changes, additions or deletions--it's your project! This is the time to tell me if you want a change in audience, voice, style or content.

Once you tell me I'm on the right track, I'll proceed with the writing. Depending upon the size of your project, I'll deliver portions of the copy along the way to make sure you're getting what you hoped for. We'll keep doing this to make sure that the final product has the style, tone and message you want.

Ordinary consultations and up to two revisions within 30 days from delivery of the first draft for are included in my fees. If you need more than two revisions, either I haven't done my background work properly (unlikely!) or you've changed the scope of the project (likely!). If you do need revisions after two rounds, however, I will be glad to contract with you for the additional work.  

I'll never charge you for something outside of our agreement without getting your permission upfront. What kinds of things? Well, interviews for testimonials, research that you don't want to do yourself, and odds and ends that may come up. I'll always get your approval first.
